The position of DBA/Data Architect is a engineering development position with Semantic AI Inc. You will base your activities out of the Semantic AI Inc. at the offices in San Diego, California. The primary focus of your work effort will be software project support in direct response to the demands of the evolving technology known as Semantica Cortex. Also, you will serve as the expert in the Semantica Cortex databases, in particular, the data models, the database schema, the database code and the interactions between the application and the database. You will be responsible for resolving all database performance related issues that may arise and to architect the database and the database code to be a high-performance system with capacity for billions of table rows.
In Particular, We Are Looking For Your…
- Engineering prowess in implementing tactical approaches to real world data problems, intuitive user interfaces, and powerful data ingest solutions
- Ability to fully understand a user story and to tell that story in a compelling way through software demonstrations
- Attention to detail and a desire to build and test quality code in a collaborative agile team environment
- Expertise in developing new software capabilities based on direct customer feedback and team innovations to improve the real difference our products make in a huge variety of knowledge discovery uses in settings ranging from the Intelligence Community to global commercial businesses engaged in everything from tech to consulting
- Ability to architect great database solutions
- Ability to solve challenging performance problems
- Ability to perform capacity planning for databases
- BS/MS/Ph.D in Computer Science or Computer Information System or similar study with equivalent experience
Minimum skills required:
- Top expertise in SQL queries and OLTP transactions.
- Performance tuning of SQL queries.
- Performance tuning of tables and indexes.
- Data Modeling expertise in both OLTP systems and OLAP data warehouse.
- DBA activities, including (but not limited to) database backup strategies, replication, DBMS configuration and performance tuning,
- Working experience on clustered database technologies like Postgres XL, Greenplum, Netezza or Teradata.
- Working knowledge of ETL technologies.
- Extensive experience of UNIX/Linux and proficient in shell script development.
A plus if you have one or more of the following skills:
- PostgreSQL
- Java core development
- Understanding of Hibernate and JPA
- Elasticsearch / SOLR / Lucene
- Graph theory and/or graph database systems, like Neo4j.
- Any big data technology, like Hadoop, Cassandra and/or Mongodb
- RESTful web services
- Cloud Computing / Distributed Computing / Amazon Web Services
